I have recently read a series of texts (or better said meditations on various topics) belonging to Elena Ferrante. One of them refers to the imperative need to write. What is true in the case of a literary vocation certainly applies to talent in other fields: procrastination (I write after doing this or that, I train after, etc.) and complacency are excluded. As for work and perseverance... it's like Hemingway said: a story is just the tip of the iceberg. What is not seen and supports it are the study, the reflection, all the material not used directly in the story...

One could add that such vocations or practices are especially valuable today when society offers so little to structure the individual life.
